Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority

Fair Housing…. it’s Your Right!

Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) is committed to providing fair and equal access to housing and housing-related programs and services. NRHA complies with all applicable federal fair housing and civil rights laws.

Federal fair housing laws prohibit discrimination in housing and ensure that applicants, residents, and program participants have equal opportunity to access and benefit from housing programs and services.

For more information about NRHA’s nondiscrimination policies, compliance with federal civil rights laws, and how to file a discrimination complaint, please visit the Notice of Nondiscrimination

Fair Housing Protections

Federal fair housing laws prohibit discrimination in housing based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex (including sexual orientation and gender identity), familial status, and disability. These protections apply to the sale, rental, financing, and administration of housing and housing-related services.

Disability‑Related Housing Rights

Individuals with disabilities have the right to equal opportunity in housing and housing-related programs and services. This includes the right to request reasonable accommodations, which are changes to rules, policies, procedures, or communication methods, and, in some circumstances, reasonable modifications, which are physical or structural changes to a unit or common areas. These requests are reviewed through separate processes depending on the housing program.

More information is available on the below pages for both modifications and accommodations.
