Department heads from the City of Norfolk’s Community Development office, City Planning, Economic Development and the Manager’s office joined together with executives from Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority (NRHA) to share the significant development opportunities available throughout Norfolk.
Over 130 representatives of leading local, regional and some out-of-state companies representing developers, general contractors, architects and lenders were briefed on city-wide projects last week during Norfolk’s Developers Forum held at the Kroc Center.
“There is an over-arching need for the City of Norfolk and NRHA to work collectively to create an environment that provides what developers, general contractors and businesses need to take advantage of these opportunities,” says Simms. “Having a healthy ecosystem will provide the citizens of Norfolk with a range of housing choices across the city that otherwise may not be available to them.
“This is the moment to create and execute a comprehensive housing strategy aimed at providing housing solutions for all income levels that will open the doors to creating generational wealth and solidifying the City of Norfolk as a place of inclusion and prosperity.”
Norfolk Mayor Kenny Alexander welcomed attendees at a reception the evening and reiterated the need for “strong partnerships in the development sector to help the City to move forward.” The reception was held at The Harbor Club in the Waterside District.
Sean Washington, the city’s Director of Economic Development said, “The city strongly supports helping builders more easily navigate the development process in Norfolk.”
