Do you find yourself struggling to pay your minimum rent this month? NRHA is here to help.
We’re pleased to announce that the Hardship Exemption Application is now open for eligible tenants. This program is designed to temporarily waive minimum rent requirements for those experiencing financial hardship — giving you some breathing room while things stabilize.
What is a Hardship Exemption?
A hardship exemption allows tenants who are facing financial difficulty to be temporarily exempt from paying minimum rent. During the review process, NRHA will pause the minimum rent charge so you aren’t penalized while your application is being processed.
How Does It Work?
-
Submit your Hardship Exemption Application.
-
NRHA will immediately stop charging the minimum rent while your case is under review.
-
If additional documentation is needed, you’ll receive a written notice and will have 10 days to submit proof of hardship.
-
Once the review is complete, you’ll get a copy of your application and a decision in writing.
Who Qualifies?
You may be eligible if any of these match your situation:
-
You or a household member lost a job
-
You lost another source of income
-
You’re waiting for or lost federal, state, or local benefits
-
You’re unable to pay minimum rent and face possible eviction
-
Someone in your household whose income was primary has passed away
If you meet any of these conditions, you should consider applying.
